THE first of five concerts to showcase the musical talents of youngsters from across Bolton was held on Monday evening.

Music Centre Presents, at Victoria Hall, Knowsley Street, showcases the instrumental and choral work undertaken by students at Bolton Music Centre.

Roger Fildes, a supporter of the music centre and audience member, said: "It is great to see our local schools involved in Music Centre Presents, it was clear for everyone to see that these children really enjoyed themselves.

"It must have been really exciting for the younger children to see the more advanced players and what they have achieved.

"Bolton Music Service is doing a really fantastic job.”

Across the five evenings, young musicians will feature in a variety of ensembles — from junior to senior level, performing in a range of styles and genres.

Monday's concert featured Soul Patrol, Bolton Junior Percussion Ensemble, Bolton Youth Clarinet Choir, Ladybridge & Turton Junior String Ensemble, school choirs from St Gregory’s RC, St Matthew’s CE, Beaumont and Bolton Parish CE, Bolton Junior Youth Orchestra and the Ferns Academy, Bolton Junior Brass Band and Bolton Youth Concert Band.
