IT is not unusual for youngsters artwork to be displayed on their classroom wall — or on the fridge at home.

But pupils at one school in Bolton held a three-day art exhibition based on the works of Pablo Picasso.

Every single child at SS Simon and Jude's CE Primary School in Great Lever had a piece of artwork displayed in the exhibition which was open to parents as well as pupils and teachers from nearby schools.

The exhibition was called 'The Artist Through the Eyes of the Child' and showcased included portraits, natural landscape and animal paintings.

Executive principal Simon Bramwell said: "The quality of the individual work was stunning but the creative way in which our teaching assistants created the experience of the exhibition was overwhelming, all involved should be very proud."

He added: "Staff from over a dozen schools visited the exhibition and comments left reflected the impact it had had."

School head Liz Peacock said: "The greatest joy was the enthusiasm of the children translated into the pride of their parents as they toured the exhibition.

"Every child has something to offer, this week every child feels like a real artist."

Children said they were proud to have their work exhibited and seen by people in and out of school.

Amna Akbar, aged 10, said: "I think that the art exhibition was outstanding — it was extremely eye catching.

"As well as that it had every child's artwork included in it. It made everyone in school really very proud of themselves."

Raza Siddique, aged seven, added: "I couldn't believe my eyes.

"It was massive. I liked it being in a wiggly line to walk through.

"I made a jelly fish for the sea display. It was great. I loved it."
