YOUNG masterchef Isobel “Issy” Plant was crowned the Bolton School Bake Off Champion.

The pupil went head-to-head with three other pupils — year seven Jack Tyldesley and year eights Safa Patel Asmara Stubley —- as the competition entered its final heat.

For her winning dish Issy drew inspiration from the school’s 100 and 500 year celebrations creating another batch of celebration deluxe two-tone cupcakes which incorporated the school colours both in the icing and in the cake itself.

Her fondant decorations included a miniature pupil from each with the cake designed to reflect the drive to the centre arch of the school

The talented baker even included a chalkboard sketch of the clock tower to add to the effect.

Judges included the headteachers of both the boys’ and girls’ divisions.

All four finalists received copies of Marco Made Easy: A Three-Star Chef Makes it Simple by Marco Pierre White.

Issy also won a gold iPod Shuffle.

She will go on to judge the Great Bolton School Bake Off at the Joint Parent Association Family Festival in June

A school spokesman said: “Each of the finalists chose spectacular showstopper bakes and did not let the tight time-frame they were given put them off from using complex techniques and setting themselves difficult challenges.

“The standard was incredibly high from all four finalists.

“However, there could be only one winner, and the judges had to mark strictly based on the criteria.

"The competition was incredibly close, with just two points separating first and third place.”
