IT is not often that youngsters are treated to a live music gig during their dinner time break — but that is exactly what happened at one school in Bolton when acclaimed musician and former pupil Jordan Allen returned to see his old teachers.

Since leaving Bolton School in 2010, the former pupil has had his music featured on Soccer AM and has been praised by the likes of BBC 6 Music and Xfm, as well as being likened to Jake Bugg.

Jordan, however, cites his influences as being The Courteeners, The Artic Monkeys and The Hives.

The talented musician is lined up to play the Kendal Calling Festival this summer.

His gig at the school included Holding Fast, Rich and Famous as well as Set in Stone.

During the solo gig he reminisced to pupils about his time at school, telling them that the Arts Centre seemed a lot smaller now compared to when he played Fagan in the Junior Boys’ production of Oliver Twist.

Jordan told pupils: "I did not really pick up a guitar until year nine so even so even without a music GCSE a career in the industry is possible."

He is currently coming to the end of a Marketing degree at Leeds Beckett University while working part-time and hopes to release two new songs in the autumn — with his group having secured the services of a top manager who has previously managed rockers Muse.

Jordan tuned into music after going to Xfm’s Wonderland gig which had The Courteeners and The Ting Tings on the bill.
