A WILD and wonderfully vintage spectacular show took to the catwalk as Bolton College's annual beauty showcase made a dazzling return.

This year students were challenged to use their creative flair to create themed beauty looks.

Level one and two students reflected the vintage themed look in nails, make-up and beauty while level three hair and media make-up were able to go wild with the animal theme.

The sparkling spectacle, which culminated in a catwalk show through the college atrium, takes place every year and provides a chance for students to demonstrate their creative talents.

Naomi Love, who is currently studying nail technology diploma level three, based her design around the literary theme of 1920s Great Gatsby and came first in her category.

Naomi, aged 23, said: “I love the competition side of things; it brings out the best in people. I like being pushed and having the chance to demonstrate my skills.”

Sarah Ball, who is currently studying hair and media make-up diploma level three, produced a snake-inspired design as she transformed her model into a green-eyed Medusa and came first in her category.

Sarah, aged 34, said: “It’s a fun day — even if we do all flap a bit.

"It’s good to see what everyone else is doing, and I’m planning to go to university next, so this will be great for my portfolio.”

In addition to industry-experienced staff members who were on-hand to offer their professional advice and guidance throughout the day, the imaginative creations were judged by guests Debra Schofield, owner and senior make-up artist at Ruby Red Lips, Marie Davis, founder of Lucy Loves Vintage website, and Kelly Evans, former Bolton College hair and media make-up student and creator of YouTube channel The Vintage Selection.

Lisa Kniveton, curriculum leader for beauty and holistics at Bolton College, said: “The annual showcase is a celebration of everything the learners have achieved so far this year, and the perfect opportunity for them to demonstrate their developing skills.

"I’d like to thank everyone involved — our dedicated tutors, the guest judges for taking the time to give us their expert opinions, and of course our talented learners.

"It was a brilliant day.”
