FASHION and music collided in spectacular style to celebrate Africa Day at Bolton College.

Officially the day to celebrate the founding of the African Union is on Monday (May 25) but as the day falls during the half-term break, students brought the celebrations forward, organising it in partnership with The Smile of Hope.

The Smile of Hope, which is a Bolton charity that represents the African community.

During the day cultures and traditions were celebrated by students.

There was an African fashion show, poetry readings, drumming and music.

Peter Griffiths, head of English and maths, said: "This is the second year we have celebrated Africa Day at the college after a student Maria Opreya founded The Smile of Hope charity.

"We had different activities on celebrating the day, in which all students got involved with and this year Maria is taking celebrations to other organisations in Bolton."
