IT was a red letter day for youngsters at a Tonge Moor primary school as they raised money for a heart charity.

Children at Moorgate Primary School, in Entwistle Street, came into school dressed all in red and each donated £1 to the British Heart Foundation in return.

The fundraising effort managed to raise a total of £175, with a cheque being presented to the charity's fundraising manager for Lancashire, Barbara Dunn.

The school decided to raise money for the charity as reception pupil Summer Taylor, aged four, had to have heart surgery at Alder Hey Children's Hospital for a condition she suffered from at birth, and she still continues to have regular check-ups.

Headteacher Debbie Hopwood said: "It was a really great day, we try to raise as much money as we can for charity and days when the children come in wearing a particular colour of clothes are always popular.

"It was great to raise money for the charity, especially as Summer is still having check ups for her heart."
