CUBS and scouts from all over Bolton joined in the fun as staff at an activity centre celebrated its tenth anniversary.

Scores of youngsters got into the swing of things when Bibby’s Farm Scout Camp and Activity Centre in Chorley marked the major milestone.

The Heath Charnock site is owned by Bolton Scout Trust and is run for the benefit of young people.

Throughout the year, it is used by cubs, scouts, explorers and beavers from across the borough and local guides and brownies, schools and youth groups.

The special weekend celebrations saw 230 cubs and scouts camp out along with 50 explorers who helped to run activities with more than 100 group leaders. During the weekend, cubs and scouts enjoyed a wide range of activities including climbing, canoeing, archery, backwoods cooking and caving — and on the final night a “Bibby’s Got Talent” show was held.

A spokesman for the centre said the weekend event had been a massive success. He said: "Well the dust has settled, everyone we have spoken to really enjoyed themselves and so it is only fitting that we thank everyone for making this event such a great success.

"Thank you. If you attended camp it would be great to hear your stories and what you would like to see on the next one."

The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Carole Swarbrick — present alongside the Mayors of Chorley, Blackrod and Horwich – unveiled a plaque commemorating the event.

Cllr Swarbrick also presented prizes to the winner and runners up of the badge competition and presented commissioners’ commendations to Andrew Jamieson and Mark Smith.

The Mayor was delighted to see a plaque in memory of her late husband, Tom, who was a scout leader in Bolton until his death.
