ONE of Bolton's most popular schools has received a glowing Ofsted report — two years after being told it needed to improve.

Turton School was praised by inspectors as a place where the majority of pupils, who enjoy coming to school, take 'considerable pride in their work, and for many, their work is exemplary.'

The school, in Bromley Cross, suffered a knock back in 2013 when Ofsted said it "required improvement" — despite being one of the borough's high performing schools.

School leaders vowed to redouble their efforts to ensure the school would be marked highly by the government's education watchdog when it next carried out a full inspection.

Headteacher Sam Gorse said she was delighted that the "excellent work of everyone in school, and the behaviour and performance of our pupils" has been recognised by Ofsted.

Inspectors reported: "This is a rapidly improving school. Senior leaders and governors have addressed the recommendations of the previous inspection with rigour and intelligence."

All areas of the school were marked as good — leadership and management; behaviour and safety of pupils, quality of teaching, achievement of pupils and sixth form provision — with the work to keep pupils safe and secure described as outstanding.

The report stated: "The attention given to students' personal development is a considerable strength of the school and makes a significant contribution to their good achievement and behaviour".

Inspectors said: "This is a harmonious school where all flourish. Relationships are excellent and students are happy and enjoy coming to school."

They found that pupils attain "very well" at the school and are well prepared for their next stage in their education.

Ms Gorse, who was described by inspectors as being instrumental in driving the rapid improvement, said: "The inspection was a very positive experience and I was very proud of the staff and students throughout. I would like to thank our parents for their overwhelming, positive support during the inspection."
