A SCHOOLBOY'S vision to help those less fortunate has inspired youngsters across Bolton to look out for others.

Big hearted Jack Fletcher has reached out to schools across the town asking them to support him in collecting spectacles for charity Vision Aid.

This time last year Jack donated his glasses which he no longer needed to Vision Aid after being moved by the plight of people while watching Sports Relief on television.

And he wrote a letter to every class about the charity at his school, Ladybridge Primary, asking children and staff to support it.

And thanks to his efforts, scores of pairs of old glasses were sent to those who cannot afford to buy them.

Now, after getting other school on board he has collected hundreds more for the charity.

The 10-year-old said: “My dad emailed the schools and they replied to say they would help.

“When they had done their glasses collection I had to go to and collect them.”

He added: “I didn’t expect it to get so big. I only had 10 schools that helped so I didn’t expect to get more than 400 pairs.

“I collected about 60 last time.”

The schools which took part were Beaumont Community Primary, Kearsley West Primary, Clarendon Community Primary, St Peters Church Of England Primary, Devonshire Road Primary, Saint Catherine's Church of England Primary (Horwich), Markland Hill Primary, Leverhulme Community Primary, The Oaks Community Primary and his own school Ladybridge Community Primary.

He added: “I’m not going to send the glasses that I’ve actually collected. Vision Aid are going to get the special materials out of them and use the money to buy brand new ones.”

Ladybridge headteacher Colin Watson sad: "Jack is an absolute star — what he has done has got bigger and better.

"He arranged the emails to send to schools and collected the glasses from them himself.

"Jack received our Community Award last year for his work to put others before himself

"I am so impressed with his efforts and through this he has brought the whole school community together."
