SPORTY youngsters at a primary school in Ringley are simply first class when it comes to football and cross country.

The teams at St Saviour's CE Primary School were crowned the champions in a number of different tournaments and competitions adding to the growing number of trophies and shields in the cabinet.

The football team is proud league champions of the Kearsley and Little Lever cluster of schools as well as topping the indoor league of the same cluster.

In cross country, the teams won a number of awards including becoming Bolton Small School Champions, and years three and four Keasley and Little Lever champions as well as other accolade.

Headteacher Ian Southern said: "I am absolutely delighted for the pupils.

"We have some wonderful talent which has been seen in the fantastic competitions organised by parents and pupils."

He added: "Young people enjoy taking part, it is great fun for them.

"In the cross country competition people keep coming back to take part."

The school built on last year's success in cross country having won the Boys Small Schools team award from Bolton Cross Country League

Mr Southern said sports provided a chance for talented sportsmen and women to shine, for those who want to enjoy it at their own level — but continues to be fun for all and keeps primary school children fit and healthy.
