TEENAGERS will be considering their options following the release of the A-level results on Thursday.

Many will have accepted their first choice place at university, others might be reconsidering their options because their results are better or worse than expected.

Headteacher of Bolton School boys' division which celebrated record breaking results — with more students getting top grades — said young people today have a number of options open to the them.

Philip Britton said: "Keep calm, first be sure you understand your results rather than reading them quickly and superficially.

"Then make sure you understand whether or not you have made your firm or insurance offer.

"Taking enough time to do this properly is crucial —then you have a number of options open to you."

He added: "Celebrate. Decide your results are better than expected and think about upgrading through the UCAS process.

"Use clearing to get another place. In this be careful not to react quickly — be sure it really is a course you will enjoy at a place you wish to be in.

"Also check details like the accommodation that will be available to you."

Mr Britton added: "Whatever you choose to do, always keep a clear head, assemble facts, analyse options and take plenty of advice.

"There is an urgency, but there is not a headlong rush.

"Clearing especially is about choosing the next three years of your life not making a dash for bargains in the January sales."

Advisors from Bolton Connexions will also be on hand to offer advice

A spokesman for the service said: “To help plan what to do next there are a range of advice, guidance and support services available to students."
