TEENAGERS across Bolton will receive their GCSE results today — and to help plan what to do next there is a range of advice, guidance and support services available to pupils no matter what their results.

Full results and reaction will be printed in tomorrow's edition of The Bolton News — and will be online on our website today.

A spokesman for Bolton Connexions, the careers advice service, said: "The first thing to remember is not to rush into making a decision.

"Those who need information, advice or guidance after receiving their results should speak to the school who are responsible for the provision of advice.

"Young people can also call the National Exam Results Helpline on 08081008000, open until August 24 or the National Careers Service on 0800 100 900 "

Every young person is guaranteed an offer of a place to continue their studies at the end of September — as new rules mean all young people leaving year 11 this year must stay in some form of learning until their 18th birthday.

However, this does not mean staying in school. Options open to young people include full or part-time education in school sixth form; sixth form college; or further education college.

Young people can also do an apprenticeship or a traineeship.

They could also take part in a study programme with a work-based learning provider to help prepare them for work or further education and employment with training to NVQ level two.

Connexions' spokesman added: "If results are not as expected, speak to your school as teachers can advise whether it is possible to retake some subjects for example English and maths.

"Further education colleges will also have open events where you can find out about available courses.

"Those looking for a job or an apprenticeship can seen an adviser at Connexions Careers Service, Bolton, in Marsden Road, Bolton or phone 0800 052 5559.

"Those unsure about their next step can contact Connexions Careers Service, Bolton, which is open Monday to Friday 12.30pm to 3.30pm."
