TEENAGER Adam Jedrzejewski is on course to achieve his ambition to be a doctor after achieving a top set of grade in his GCSEs — an achievement made all the more remarkable given he emigrated from his homeland Poland just two years ago.

The 17-year-old Canon Slade pupil not only worked hard in his subjects, but spent three hours a day improving his English.

Adam achieved six As, two Bs and one C in his results.

He said: "I am really excited with my results, I was so nervous beforehand.

"In Poland I got an A* in English but is not the same as using it in real life. I did work so hard."

Adam will now go on to study physics, biology, chemistry and maths at A-level before gong on to do medicine at university.

The teenager was many of this year's record breaking students who achieved top grades.

Corrina Clar, aged 16, was jumping for joy after achieving 10 A*s and an A in her results.

For she is to take up a place at the Central School of Ballet.

She said: "It has been an important year for, I had the auditions for the school and after that revision.

"I am really happy with my results, I wasn't expected to get straight As.

"I am excited to be going to the school, which I will attend for three years."

Alan Mottershead, head of Canon Slade, said: "Their pleasing results are a testimony to their dedication to their studies and managing the many pressures of their exam year.

"The expertise and commitment of our staff, both teaching and support, have helped the students to their successes.

"We are ever grateful for the support and encouragement given by parents and carers to both students and the school. The strong partnership between home and school provides youngsters with every possibility of achieving their full potential."
