IT takes real teamwork to keep any school not just operating but achieving real success term after term.

Although the teachers are vital, the team of people involved in any enterprise at the top of its game is made up of a wide range of people.

There are people in the spotlight and then there are those who get on quietly working behind the scenes, and without whose brilliant efforts and commitment the world would be a poorer place.

And in today's digital age everyone needs a Hayley Rostron — and primary schools in Bolton know how lucky they are to have her.

Hayley Rostron works for Bolton School's ICT department supporting primary schools with their information communication development, in particular building websites and school blogs.

And from what teachers say, she is truly deserving of the Unsung Hero Award, sponsored by Synergy Dental Clinic, for being on what seems like 24/7 call.

Lynn Williams, head of St Peter's CE Primary School in Farnworth, said: "Her technical expertise is invaluable, but most admirable is the dedication and passion she commits to her job.

"She can be relied on to respond to 'cries for help' with technological/website issues and has often helped me out when officially 'off duty' even on Saturday evening, when my tinkering took my website homepage off-line!"

Mrs Rostron, aged 43, and lives in Farnworth, has been a part of the ICT team for eight years.

She said: " I was shocked, I had no idea I had been nominated.

"It is so nice to be recognised, and I accept this on behalf of everyone in the ICT department.

"I really enjoy working in schools, I get to know everyone involved in schools — I've even been on holiday and children have recognised as the computer lady!"

Mrs Rostron added: "It is such an exciting time to work in this area with technology moving so fast, with iPads and apps.

"Children are now learning coding, which I help with."
