MEET tomorrow's stars of the rugby world.

Youngsters at St James' CE Primary School in Daisy Hill, Westhoughton, were given special lessons in the sport by members of Bolton Rugby Club.

The school was one of ten primaries in Westhoughton to take advantage of the free coaching thanks to the team.

A tournament was organised and each school represented a different country.

Youngsters then went on to find out as much as they could about the country they represented and enjoying the coaching sessions to ensure they were ready for the tournament.

Suzanne Hartop, PE teacher at St James' CE Primary School, said the tournament – which was based on the Rugby World Cup – was a fantastic success.

Mrs Hartop said: "We were offered free coaching and Sainsburys sponsored the different kits in the colours of the countries.

"They were mixed teams, and our team won all the games.

"Parents came to watch the tournament and members from Bolton Rugby Club acted as referees."

Throughout the project, children were taught the ethos of sports, wearing wrist bands with the word "try, try again".

And the scheme was big hit with those who love rugby and also those who discovered it for the first time.
