BRIGHT young things at Bolton Sixth Form College are on track to achieve their goals after official Government figures showed it was among the best in the North West.

The school and college performance tables published this week show that A-level results at Bolton Sixth Form College are among the best in the town — with the average point score per student in last year's exams being above the local average.

The average point score per A-level entry stood at 203 , with the local average being 201.2.

And bosses at the sixth form in Deane Road said results in vocation subjects were "quite outstanding", being among the "very best" in the country.

They added that the combination of A-level and vocational results showed that students at Bolton Sixth Form College "make significantly more progress than with any other provider in the area and places the college amongst the top handful of specialist sixth form providers in the North West".

The Bolton News reported that the college is exploring becoming a government flagship academy as a review into the future of post-16 provision gets under way.

Steve Wetton, principal, said: “The college is delighted with these results and we feel extremely confident as we explore the possibilities of academy status.

"2015 was a great year for us with a 98.5 per cent pass rate at A-level and 100 per cent on vocational subjects and the performance tables are a testament to the effort and commitment shown by everyone at the college.

"The ethos and learning environment we have demonstrates that as a specialist sixth form college we are able to deliver high quality teaching and learning and achieve excellent results.

"We support all our students, enable them to make better progress and improve their achievements so they can realise their potential and succeed in their future careers."
