A CELEBRATION of cultures took place for Chinese New Year at a Bolton school.

Children at Clarendon Primary School immersed themselves in East Asian culture for the day to learn all about China.

Nursery and reception classes enjoyed a day of crafts, food and dressing up to celebrate the Year of the Monkey.

Activities included trying out chopsticks for noodle and spring roll tasting, making dancing dragons and Chinese calligraphy.

Reception teacher Jacqueline Cooke said: "We learned a lot about what it is like to live in China and about the food. The children really enjoyed making things and using the colours of the country.

"This is such a multi-culturally diverse school, with children whose families are from Britain, India, Africa, China and Europe.

"It is lovely to celebrate our differences and backgrounds but to learn how we can all celebrate in the same way."
