THE best of the Bolton school community have been given a chance to shine.

Behind classroom doors are thousands of teachers, pupils and staff working hard every day to bring top class education to the community.

And here we honour the achievements of those people and places that make up all that’s good in the borough’s schools at the second Bolton News School Awards.

Unsung Hero of the Year, sponsored by Anthony Axford Ltd: Rachael Beattie, Roscow Fold Pupil Referral Unit

TEACHER Rachael Beattie really does make a difference to the lives of children every single day.

And if you were to ask pupils who their most cherished teacher is, it would undoubtedly be Miss Beattie.

Miss Beattie’s work is not just confined to the classroom, she ensure that her pupils always have someone to talk to.

She works at Roscow Fold Pupil Referral Unit where she lends an ear to anyone who needs a friend. She has helped children in the most desperate of situations and provided a safe environment for them where any troubles they may have can be forgotten.

Her sister, Laura Beattie put her forward and stating: “She really is a hero in so many ways.”

Miss Beattie said: “To win the award is amazing and I am in complete shock!

“I adore my job and love coming to work everyday.

“The team I work with are fantastic and I couldn’t do the job I do without their backing and support.

“Every pupil I have supported has taught me something different and I will remember each and every one of them as I hope they’ll remember me.”

“All I set out to do is make a difference no mater how big or small and hopefully I achieve that.”

After collecting her award she said: “It’s amazing to win this, I’m completely overwhelmed.

“The staff I work with are amazing so this award is for them as well.”
