YOUNG people with designs on success are being sought by the developers of a flagship store for leading fashion and home retailer.

Middlebrook Retail and Leisure Park wants young people to play a vital part in the building of the new Next Store by naming and designing an image for an important piece of construction equipment — the roller machine.

The winning design and name will be printed on the equipment, and the winner will receive £100 worth of vouchers to spent at Next.

The competition is part of a larger initiative to involve the wider community in the build.

During the build youngsters from across Horwich will learn about the dangers of building sites to the careers available in the construction — as well as being kept informed of the progress of the development.

Jonathan Parker from Jones Construction said: “During construction communities are our neighbours.

“Our work at Middlebrook and Parklands have spanned over 20 years meaning The Emerson Group has forged a strong connection with the local community.

“As we are currently building a flagship retail unit for Next at Middlebrook we feel that we have an excellent opportunity to positively interact with local parents and children.

“We are launching this competition as a way of providing a fun introduction to construction for local children, however this is just the start of what we hope will be a number of activities and events we will be able to get involved in.

“In addition to the competition we are attending a school assembly at Chorley New Road primary school. This will give us the opportunity to talk to the children about the dangers of construction sites and to understand the significance of safe behaviour not only on and around sites but in life in general.

“At the end of June, we have also arranged to take part in a careers day at Chorley New Road Primary school.

to engage with the children and their families to provide a message that the construction industry has improved dramatically and now represents an exciting career choice with diverse opportunities for women as well as men.”

Heather Crank-Ingham, retail marketing and PR manager, said the competition fitted in with the family-friendly environment the Middlebrook Retail and Leisure Park.

She said: “The idea of the competition is to engage local schools in the project.

“This is something fun for the children to take part in and find out more about site safety and the opportunities available in the construction industry.”
