CANON Slade pupil Daniel Tatterton had a taste of further education, in an innovative scheme designed to ease the move from school to college.
The 14-year-old along with other teenagers from across the region, attended a series of workshops at Blackburn College’s hospitality department.
Daniel learned a range of new catering skills, including pastry making and received a certificate recognising his good work.
He said: “It’s been worth giving up my Saturday mornings to do this course. I’ve learned a lot of new things.”
Over a four week period, young budding chefs learned a variety of sweet and savoury recipes including bread, pies, tarts, quiches, custards and puddings.
Ian Sutherland, the college’s hospitality tutor, said: “The quality of work that the students have carried out this year has been outstanding.
“They were a very attentive and courteous group of students who were willing to learn all sorts of things.
“The event is a perfect way to introduce school pupils into a college environment and we’ve had excellent feedback from all those involved.”
