OLIVER Wotherspoon of the Hobbit hole fame has completed his most rewarding — and emotional — project to date after helping a family enjoy precious time together in their garden.

Oliver, owner of Bolton-based Cool Canvas was approached by primetime television show Love Your Garden to help the family of Alex Wood, who after setting off to France with his family for a new life, suffered a massive brain injury during a game of rugby.

Mr Wood is now wheelchair-bound and in need of constant care.

He is currently undergoing rehabilitation and moments spent with his family in Bideford, Devon, are precious.

Oliver, who was featured on Channel 4’s Amazing Spaces for transforming his garden into an enchanting Hobbit Hole for his children, was one of the team who helped transform the garden into a place where the family can enjoy time together.

This time he created a climbing frame for Mr Wood’s children for free after the team who had heard about his Hobbit Hole fame contacted him to see if he could help.

Oliver, aged 32, from Over Hulton, said: “We had four weeks to create it so it was a very quick turnaround. It was challenging but massively rewarding, and emotional as well.

“I know I always say this but it is my favourite project.

“We created it here and then had to transport this three and half tonne structure to Devon.”

He added: “I really wanted to do this, and create something for the children, and seeing the children seeing the garden for the first time was tremendous, adults were trying to talk to them, but they were in their own world.”

Love Your Garden, which was shown on Tuesday can been seen again on ITV Player.
