3. Submerge yourself in a passionate wartime thriller. Critically-acclaimed new play, Lotty’s War, a true story of love, loyalty and betrayal based on recently discovered diaries, is on at the Opera House, Manchester, until Saturday.

4. Watch the burning of the 10-headed effigy Ravana. There will also be fireworks, food and entertainment at Bolton Hindu Forum’s Dussehra Festival — to celebrate the victory of good over evil — and Diwali Fair, from 4pm to 8pm on Saturday at Bolton Indian Sports Club, Hacken Lane.
