A TALENTED artist who creates intricate sculptures on the ends of pencils has completed his most challenging design to date.

Father-of-one Hedley Wiggan, aged 48, of Tonge Moor Road, Bolton, has turned his attention to personalised sculptures of people's heads, creating bust-type figures on tiny pencil nibs.

He previously spent four weeks working on an amazing marlin fish artwork which was bought by a customer in Canada.

Mr Wiggan said: "I paint and I sculpt, people know me for the sculptures which I started about four years ago.

"I use HB pencils of different strengths of graphite.

"At first I did have a monocle that jewellers use for looking at tiny jewellery and then I went to a magnifying glass.

"I make my own tools. I was given a microscope and I can actually do the shape with my naked eye.

"I use the microscope for the finer detail and I can do people's faces."

His previous work includes miniscule sculptures of Harry Styles, from One Direction, a pregnant Kate Middleton, all four of The Beatles, a car complete with tiny wheels, skulls and a Hallowe'en pumpkin head.

Speaking of the marlin fish, Mr Wiggan, a hospital assistant at Royal Bolton Hospital, said: "That took a month, it was really difficult to get the point on the nose.

"It's a bit of a challenge but I like to have a go, I never say I can't do something."
