A TEENAGE singer who wowed superstar singer Kylie Minogue on a television talent show has released a Christmas single.

Joe Keegan, aged 17, from Westhoughton, who landed a place on Team Kylie on BBC's The Voice UK earlier this year, performs his own arrangement of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

The track was released earlier this month and is available to buy on iTunes and other online stores.

Joe, who is studying for A Levels including music at Thornleigh Salesian College, said: "It's the first single I have ever released.

"It's an arrangement of a 400-year-old carol.

"I just did it because I thought it's a good way of celebrating the festive season.

"It's the first thing I've ever done so I thought it would be a good start.

"It seems to be going well.

"It's had a good response on social media.

"I've got a single coming out in January and then an EP after that."

In February, Joe was seen on screen impressing the Voice's star mentors with a rendition of Ben Howard's Keep Your Head Up.

He was coached by Kylie and guest mentor Jake Shears before losing out to fellow contestant Jamie Johnson in a head-to-head singing battle.

Since appearing the show, Joe, who writes his own songs and also plays the piano, guitar, flute, ukulele and drums, has been working on his musical career.

Joe, a talented Irish dancer, said: "It's been nearly a year now and it's been the busiest of my life.

"I've done all sorts.

"I've performed at fashion shows, art exhibitions. I've done some modelling which was novel — all sorts of stuff.

"If I hadn't been on The Voice, the things I have been doing wouldn't have happened.

"It has changed my life for the better.

"After the EP, I want to take it out to people and play as many gigs around the country as I can."

Throughout the year, he has also performed at fundraisers, as well as a launch event for the Vaults in Market Place Shopping Centre and, on Sunday, will appear at Caffè Nero, Deansgate. For updates, follow @joekeeganmusic on Twitter.
