A NEW £30,000 mobile skate park will be unveiled on Tuesday — and young people are invited to put their skates on and be the first to try it out.

The park features a half pipe, grinding rails and a variety of ramps, and can be transported to most locations.

It will be on show for the first time at Waggon Road Young Persons Centre in Bolton on Tuesday, and then again at Central Park in Westhoughton on Friday, May 29, between 11am and 3pm.

There will be refreshments and activities for all the family, including the chance to try out the equipment, with visitors encouraged to bring along their skateboards, bikes and scooters.

The cash has come from the council's capital budget for youth provision, which was approved in autumn.

Bolton Council's cabinet member for culture, youth and sport, Cllr John Byrne, said: “As part of our commitment to investing in facilities for young people last year, a mobile skate park was highlighted as something that would benefit a lot of people in the borough.

“It’s evident from the number of young people who use the town centre skate park that this type of activity is popular.

"By making the facility mobile, every area in Bolton should be able to access the equipment.”

The announcement of the new skate park comes just a couple of months after the official opening of the town centre's new £180,000 skatepark.

The old skatepark opened in 2007 and, due to its popularity, council chiefs decided to create a new park to cater for the increase in demand.

The open-air concrete park has been built on the site of the old park in Dawes Street, and measures 1,275 square metres — almost double the size of the previous facility.
