FOR 11-year-old actress Mia Thompson the theatre world saying 'break a leg' has not brought her much luck.

Just two weeks before curtain up on a James Bond spoof, the youngster took a tumble while playing on a seesaw.

Despite fracturing her leg and needing crutches, she is determined the show must go on and will appear as Professor Prune in the Red Macintosh Double Bill.

The show is being staged by Bethel Crowd AODS Westhoughton's juniors at the United Reformed Church of Westhoughton, Park Road.

Mia has performed in three shows with the group and was delighted to land the role of Professor Prune.

She said: "The doctors said it would be fine.

"I had quite a big part so I didn't want to not have it anymore.

"As Professor Prune I'm in charge of all the gadgets."

Mum Caroline, from Westhoughton who also has a five-year-old daughter, said: "She would've been devastated if she couldn't do the part.

"Because of the type of show it is, it kind of fits in quite well."

Directed by Benjamin Kilburn, it is the junior workshop production for 2015 and features a cast of budding performers, aged eight to 18.

The performance is a double bill — The Mandarin Mystery and The Worms of Death — so audiences can enjoy two of the secret agent's best adventures.

Scott Jones, Bethel Crowd vice chairman, said: "Poor Mia has injured her leg and is on crutches but, in true Bethel tradition, she wants the show to go on.

"To coin a phrase cast in a cast or even break a leg, she is courageously performing through the pain barrier to give the parents and kids of Westhoughton a virtuoso performance.

"Mia hopes folks will come on down and support her and all the cast in Red Macintosh Secret Agent double bill, The Mandarin Mystery and The Worms of Death."

The show opened on Friday and continues tonight and next Friday and Saturday.
