BOLTON will be turned into a hub of creative and artistic explosions this weekend for the town's first Sound Social event.

Organisers aim to support local talent, embrace the history of Bolton and develop a forum for creativity.

It will feature a range of musical talent from Feed The Kid, Apache Viking, The Jade Assembly, Gaz Drury from Our Fold, Steve Warwick, James Holt, Quip, Duds, Revolution in Paradise and The Reveres.

Alongside these seasoned performers, the Rock It project, which supports young and growing talent with youth mentoring, has three bands performing.

Money raised will go back into the Rock It project as well as supporting Bolton's community cinema organisation Cinebox, which inspires young and old to use film as a proactive medium.

In addition to the music there is Poetry from Oliver Lomax and Jim Byrne, Photography exhibition from Nik Bryant, Art, Craft and Drama workshops, there really is something for all the family.

One of the organisers, Ivan Crompton, from Breightmet, said: "I have put on a number of events in Bolton. I look around at places like Ramsbottom who put on the festival each year and think that for a town of our stature we can do more.

"Rather than it being just one person this is a collective of people. We all got together and decided to kick start something and get young people involved too.

"This event will be a bit of a consultation, if you like, just so that we can see exactly what people in the town want from such an event. But we have already had interest from bands such as Elbow who are interested in helping on future projects.

"As well as all the bands we will have craft stalls, a photography and art exhibition — there will be a bit of everything. Carrs Pasties is kindly sponsoring the event, which we are really grateful for, and any money raised will go back into the project. So it really is all about Bolton."

Sound Social will take place this Saturday at Commerce House, Bridgeman Place, Bolton from 1pm until late. It will be £6 entry for adults and £3 for under 12s.
