PETER Kay's Car Share sitcom picked up four gongs at the the annual Royal Television Society North West Awards on Saturday night.

The Bolton comedian's show, which was released on the BBC iPlayer earlier this year, was named best comedy programme at the ceremony in Manchester, while Peter himself won Best Performance in a Comedy.

The show, which followed supermarket colleagues forced into a new car share scheme, also won an award for best post production, with the Phoenix Nights star and co-writers Sian Gibson, Paul Coleman, and Tim Reid taking the Best Script Writer prize.

Car Share became the biggest sitcom to premiere on any TV channel since 2011 when it launched, with 6.85 million viewers tuning in for the opening episode.
