RADCLIFFE film director Danny Boyle missed out in this year's Oscar nominations — but two actors from his film are up for top gongs.

Danny's biopic of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs has also not been nominated for best picture at this year's 88th Academy Awards, but Michael Fassbender, who played Steve Jobs, is up for best actor, and Kate Winslet, who played Jobs' right hand woman Joanna Hoffman, was nominated as best supporting actress.

Leading the way overall is Leonardo di Caprio starring The Revenant, which received 12 nominations.

The star studded awards ceremony will be held on February 28.

Danny won the Academy Award for best director for his 2008 film Slumdog Millionaire.

Elsewhere, British stars Eddie Redmayne, Charlotte Rampling, Kate Winslet, Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and Sam Smith are among the nominees for this year's Oscars.
