Coronation Street's Catherine Tyldesley was serenaded on her wedding day by on screen Corrie boyfriend Shayne Ward.

At the personal request of the bride, the 2005 winner of The X Factor, who plays Aidan Connor in the ITV soap, sang Butterfly Kisses by US singer Bob Carlisle.

Ward received a standing ovation and told Hello! magazine about his role in the Walkden actress' big day.

"Cath asked me to sing it for her only a few weeks ago. I'm so happy and honoured I was able to do it for her," the 31-year-old said.

The song is about a father's love for his little girl who is about to get married.

Tyldesley, 32, best known for her portrayal of Corrie's Eva Price, wed fitness consultant Tom Pitfield in front of family, friends and co-stars at Colshaw Hall in Cheshire on May 21.

The bride wore a beautiful Philip Armstrong wedding gown before changing into a bespoke halter-neck ivory silk gown by Mark Melia.

"It was my dream come true," she told the magazine.

"I had been looking forward to this moment for so long. Tom and I are very traditional and it was important for us to show our deep commitment to each other."

The former St. George's RC High School pupil added: "The night before I was so excited that I could hardly sleep for thinking about it, and when I walked in, the sight before me blew me away.

"It was picture perfect. There were scented candles and beautiful flowers - and most importantly of all, there was Tom."

The groom, who has a 14-month-old son Alfie with Tyldesley, said he was overcome with emotion when he saw his bride for the first time.

"She looked so beautiful. This lady changed my life the moment she walked into it," Pitfield said.

"She is the most caring and beautiful woman I've ever met."

Coronation Street stars in attendance included Jane Danson (Corrie's Leanne Battersby), Samia Ghadie (Maria Connor) and Brooke Vincent (Sophie Webster).

Jennie McAlpine (Fiz Brown), Ryan Thomas (soon to depart as Jason Grimshaw) and Jack P Shepherd (David Platt) were also guests.
