A POPULAR music night in Bolton has gone for a change of scene.

Live From Worktown's jazz event will be celebrating an evening of A Love Supreme with SoundSphere on Sunday at Lincoln's Bar and Grill.

The event will celebrate the many Festivals of Light with a reworking of John Coltrane's music and one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time, which was reworked by John MacLaughlin and Carlos Santana as 'Love, Devotion, Surrender' in the 1970s.

Paul Bibby of the band SoundSphere said: 'when Dave Morgan asked us if SoundSphere would like to play at one of Live From Worktown’s jazz nights, I thought mmm, we normally play electronic/dance/rock gigs, but if we chilled it down a little it could really work nicely.

"Then Dave asked me if we could base our first set around John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme and our second set around the music of Ravi Shankar, I thought mmm not an easy one this.

"The Fripp/Hendrix sounds that I usually use on guitar will be backed right off on the night to an appropriate jazz tone with guitarscapes used as well. There will be synth washes fading in and out.

"We hope the audience enjoys the set as much as we have enjoyed putting it together."

The night has changed venues following the temporary closure of Harvey's.

Lincoln's can be found in Mawdsley Street, opposite Harvey's, and doors open at 7.30pm, with the first set starring at 8.15pm and second set at 9.30pm.

Tickets are £6 in advance or £8 on the door. to book visit www.livefromworktown.org.
