A BOLTON filmmaker is celebrating success after shooting a series of short documentaries.

Jack Leigh, aged 26, of Horwich, has filmed the ‘Human Nature’ documentary series that has won national awards.

Alongside Tim Baxter, 34, of Prestwich, the pair film for Eight Engines production company.

Jack said: “The Human Nature series looks at human stories and films them in the style of a nature documentary.”

‘Rich is the Life’ won the Best Short Documentary at the London Independent Film in January this year.

It also beat over 3,000 other films to premiere at the Manchester Lift Off Festival which takes place tomorrow and Thursday.

The documentary is centred on a man with manic depression and his place within mainstream society.

Jack said: “The documentary will be screened at film festivals all over the world. It will also be released online.”

The pair also directed ‘Getting The Miles In The Legs’, which was shot in Bolton and features local resident Steve Pearson, who has rekindled his love for running following arthritis and a double hip replacement. Mr Pearson can be seen running through hills and mountains in the north of England.

Jack grew up in Horwich and went to school at Rivington and Blackrod High School. His career began working as a production assistant on various films and television shows, such as Fast and Furious 6 and Peaky Blinders.

He then spent two years working as a development assistant producer on various documentary feature films.

Despite both living in Manchester, Jack and Tim met while working on a Kenyan military base.

They had both been hired to create a series of documentaries for the UK’s Department of Foreign Development.

Since meeting Tim and Jack have worked together regularly, including on the BBC4 drama Men Who Sleep in Cars starring Maxine Peake.

Eight Engines have also commissioned documentaries for the BBC.

The documentaries can be viewed online on the video platform Vimeo at vimeo.com/eightengines
