TEENAGE yobs went on a rampage causing £60,000 of damage by jumping on the rooftops of buses and smashing windows “like it was a party”.

CCTV footage from the bus depot in Cuthbert Street, Bolton, which is home to Cumfy Bus, caught the seven vandals smashing up buses and sticking their fingers up at security cameras.

Dave Adams, a duty supervisor at Cumfybus said: “The place looked horrendous, there was glass all over the busses and all over the yard.

“The majority of the windows on each of the buses were smashed. They used bricks, fire extinguishers and emergency hammers from the buses to smash the windows.

“When we looked at CCTV the seven youths looked like they were having a party. They were jumping on the skylight emergency exits, breaking them and breaking the windows of the buses.

“At the start of the footage they were covering their faces then they were sticking their fingers up.”

Ten Cumfybuses, which are used for contracts across the borough, were damaged along with four vehicles, which belonged to the depot’s owner. The damage has cost the Southport-based family-run firm £60,000 to repair the damage.

The firm also faces a £25,000 insurance excess to repair the damage.

Mr Adams, aged 30, said: “The owners have lost money because of it but they managed to keep the services running.

“The working hours of the mechanics on site have since been changed so there is always somebody there.

“There haven’t been any problems since. I think the people who have done this are idiots. They must have been bored.”

“Hopefully police will catch then.

“I want Cumfybus to be able to reclaim its loses from the people responsible.”

Marshall Vickers and his daughter, Penny Lyon, run the firm and expanded their service to Bolton last year in the wake of the collapse of Maytree Travel.

It is the first time the firm has been targeted in such a serious way.

Previous incidents have included smashed windows.

PC Matt Blakeley, from Bolton South Neighbourhood Policing Team, said the youths on CCTV were believed to be aged 15 or 16. He said door-to-door enquiries had been carried out and officers are hoping to identify the people responsible from the CCTV footage.

The crime happened on June 20 between 7.05pm and 7.20pm. He urged people with aany information to call officers at Bolton south on 0161 856 5608 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
