Staff and regulars at a Farnworth pub handed over a cheque for £2,300 to the hospital that helped their landlady’s daughter beat cancer.

Sophie Leese-Forshaw, whose mum Tina Forshaw is the Britannia Inn’s manager, organised the fundraising efforts as a thank you to Christie Hospital, where she was treated as she twice overcame ovarian cancer.

Sophie, aged 27, was given the all clear in April this year after battling the disease for two years.

And to celebrate she arranged a day of live music at the pub and a prize draw, with hundreds of people turning out to raise money for the hospital.

The fundraiser in June was so successful that there are plans to make it an annual event at the Britannia Inn, with Mrs Forshaw admitting they were overwhelmed by the support they have received.

She said: “We wanted to say a thank you to the hospital for saving her.

“The day was just amazing, we had no idea just how many people would come, and the generosity was mind-blowing.”
