A DEVASTATED mother has told how a burglar has wrecked Christmas for her two young children.

The thief broke into Zoe Warburton Thomson's Farnworth home and made off with £1,000 worth of Christmas presents and other goods worth £2,000.

Miss Warburton Thomson, a mother-of-two, had bought her son Kane, aged 10, a PlayStation 3 and Alisse, aged eight, an iPad, which were among the items stolen in the burglary at St Germain Street.

Also stolen in the raid were a 50-inch 3D-ready Sony TV, a black Toshiba laptop, two Nintendo Wiis, an Xbox 360, a CD player, a Nintendo DS and clothes Miss Warburton Thomson had bought her two children for Christmas.

Miss Warburton Thomson, aged 30, said Christmas was wrecked.

She said: “This incident has really shaken me up. The kids are traumatised and this has totally ruined their Christmas.

"Christmas is all about the kids and I just can’t get my head around why anyone would do this.

“Kane and Alisse have said to me ‘Mum. The police will get this stuff back for us, won’t they?’ and I get a big lump of guilt in my throat.”

Miss Warburton Thomson has vowed to lift her family’s spirits in time for Christmas Day.

She said: “I’m going to try and keep a smile on my face instead of thinking about what’s happened.

“Several family members have given me money towards replacing the Christmas presents.

“I don’t want the kids to feel too down about it all — I just want them to have a normal kids' Christmas.”

The presents were stolen by one offender and police are investigating the incident, but there have so far been no arrests.

None of the family was in the house at the time, as they were staying at a friend’s house in Farnworth.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said the break in happened between 9am and 4pm on November 22.

He said: "An offender approached the back of a house on St Germain Street in Farnworth and climbed over a locked gate.

“They climbed through a window and searched the rooms, stole property and left through the kitchen door.

“Considerable damage was caused to the door and thousands of pounds worth of property was stolen, including an Xbox, iPad, PlayStations, two Wii’s, sportswear and trainers.

“No one has been arrested.”
