BOLTON Council has been granted a summons to move a group of travellers on from an area of land in Farnworth.

The authority was notified last week that the group had pitched up on playing fields next to Conway Street — which are used by the nearby St Peter’s CE Primary School.

The travellers were served with a notice, demanding that they leave the area within 24 hours, on Friday.

The group did not leave within the allotted timeframe and Bolton Council has now sought the help of Bolton Magistrate’s Court in enforcing their departure.

A spokesman for the council said: “We are aware of travellers on the site and we served them with a notice on Friday, July 31, to leave within 24 hours.

“As they did not leave we applied to the magistrates for a summons to remove them from the land.

“The summons has now been served and there will be a court hearing on Wednesday morning.”
