THE family of a baby girl diagnosed with leukaemia have inspired a £2,000 fundraiser.

Friends and family of Gemma Price and Dean Turnbull put their best foot forward for a sponsored walk on Monday.

The walk from Bolton's Victoria Square to Rivington Barn, and back, was inspired by their 11-month-old daughter Sorrelle, who was diagnosed with leukaemia at Manchester Children's Hospital just over a month ago.

Fortunately, doctors caught the cancer in time to be able to treat it.

Friend of Miss Price, Patricia Pope, from Breightmet, helped to organise the 16 mile walk which has raised more than £2,000 for Ward 84 at the hospital, which treats children with cancer.

She said: "We wanted to say thank you to the hospital for helping and catching it in time to say 'yes we can fight this'.

"You can feel alone even if there are people around you, I also wanted to show Gemma that a lot of people care and that she is not on her own."

Sorrelle and her father came to wave off her mother and the other intrepid walkers in Victoria Square, where they were joined by fellow families whose children were going through similar experiences.
