FAMILIES made the most of festive fun in Farnworth.

Father Christmas was the guest of honour at the Farnworth lights switch-on.

The jolly man in red rolled into town on his sleigh to the joy of both children and adults alike.

Along with his trusty elves, he had the honour of switching on the bright lights of the town's Christmas tree in Market Street.

Celebrating its fourth year, organisers wanted to bring festive cheer to brighten up the community spirit.

Organiser Cllr Jean Gillies said: "It was a fantastic day, the children got chocolates of Father Christmas.

"There were near 200 children plus babies. They were all cheering when Father Christmas came in on sleigh.

"Everyone pulled together, I'm just so pleased. This is what Farnworth deserved, it brightens up the town and the kids absolutely loved it. It was magical seeing their faces.

"The parents had a great time too and there was a great atmosphere."

Local community groups ran stalls at the event which in the town centre and Cole's Coffee Bar was on hand with hot potato pies and refreshments.

Making a return visit, The Bread and Butter Theatre Company donned Christmas cracker suits and entertained by pulling up the adults on stage for games.

There was also live music and entertainment with performances from the likes of St Peter's School choir and Angels Dance Fitness And Performance.

Councillors Noel Spencer and Asif Ibrahim attended the event.

Youngsters Ellie Gillies and Demi Gallimore also performed.
