PLANS to remodel Farnworth’s bus station have been submitted.
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) wants to redevelop the site in King Street by installing new shelters, lighting, and security cameras.
The proposals — which also include the resurfacing of the existing road — are part of wider plans to reinvigorate Farnworth town centre, the key part of which will be the building of a new shopping precinct on the site of the former Farnworth Market.
The redevelopment of the now-demolished market is yet to begin.
In a statement submitted to Bolton Council, TfGM said: “The proposed development will provide an enhanced gateway to the town centre and make it easier for people to travel to and from Farnworth for employment, education, retail and leisure opportunities.
“The proposals will also provide upgraded passenger waiting facilities and a better layout that is more pedestrian friendly and easier for buses to drive into and out of the station. In addition, the proposed development will incorporate appropriate facilities for cyclists and provide CCTV and improved street lighting to enhance passenger safety and security.”
