A NURSING home resident had to be rescued after getting stuck in a lift.

The man, said to be in his 60s, was stranded between the ground and first floor at The Hollands Nursing Home, in Farnworth.

Firefighters were called to the home, in Church Road, just after 11.45am on Saturday morning.

Crew manager Michael O'Neill said: "A man was in distress and we were able to rescue him. A nurse took him away, he just wanted to get back to his room."

Firefighters gained access to the lift and isolated the power before freeing the resident from the lift.

The home was advised to have the lift serviced by an engineer.

Firefighters were at the scene for about 30 minutes.
