PLANNERS will decide next week whether to allow land that backs on to a row of terraced homes to continue to be used as a bus depot.

Bolton Council’s planning committee will consider whether to grant Tyrers Coaches permission to carry on operating from the base off Bloomfield Road, in Farnworth.

The firm moved on to the site without council permission in 2015.

Residents’ complaints have largely centred around noise disturbance, and 22 letters of objection have been received in connection with the latest application.

Planning chiefs refused a previous application in March 2017 on the basis of noise and disturbance to neighbouring residential properties.

The council then took measures to stop the operation of the site by serving an enforcement notice and an abatement notice, both of which were appealed by the applicant.

But the two parties worked on a joint noise survey (JNS) which led to the development of a noise management plan (NMP), which “proved the site could operate without causing a statutory nuisance.”

Officers are now satisfied that the measures included in the NMP, including the erection of an acoustic fence, will protect residents from unacceptable noise and disturbance and screen off their view of the vehicles,

Planners have now been advised to approve the application.
