FUNDRAISING in memory of cancer victim Zoe Milton has now passed the £30,000 mark.

The total raised for Bolton Hospice, where the 28-year-old mum from Horwich received palliative care, has more than tripled since her death two weeks ago.

Zoe was diagnosed with cervical cancer in December last year — less than 12 months after giving birth to her son Charlie.

In addition to the online campaign, two raffles have been set up to help boost the total.

Jane Walker, who started fundraising when Zoe was forced to cancel her participation in an October dressage event with her Active Rider coaching camp in Rossendale, is determined to hit the target of £50,000 before the end of the month.

The 48-year-old from Bury said: “We’ve now got 23 days to raise another £20,000 and I am determined that we’re going to do it.

“Everyone has been trawling through their networks to get in touch with people, and the generosity we’ve seen has been incredible.”

Almost 1,000 people have already donated online, but the bulk of any future donations are expected to come from the auctions, which are offering items ranging from a Christmas cake to a holiday in Tenerife.

Ms Walker said: “We’re at the point where we’re seeing a lot of big donations from raffle prizes and that is what is going to get us over the line.

“This started off with people donating £5 and £10 each, which was lovely, but now most of the donations we’re putting up are in the hundreds.”

Ms Walker and her team of volunteers have been in touch with former Olympic showjumper John Whitaker, and are hoping to enlist the support of London 2012 dressage gold medallist Charlotte Dujardin.

They have also organised a dressage event in Zoe’s memory, on October 26, at Abram Hall Riding Club near Wigan, where Zoe used to ride.

It is hoped the event, which is fully booked, will raise at least £2,000 on the day.
