TEST results for a patient being tested for ebola at North Manchester General Hospital have come back negative.
Public Health England confirmed that the patient, who had travelled to West Africa, did not have the disease following tests at the hospital's infectious diseases unit.
A spokesman said: "PHE can confirm it has undertaken precautionary tests relating to a patient presently at North Manchester General Hospital, who has a history of travel to West Africa.
"Ebola was considered unlikely but testing was being done as a precaution, and was negative."
The unit at the hospital has been designated as a primary centre for any patients who are suspected to have ebola in Greater Manchester.
Pennine Acute NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, said it has "robust " plans in place to deal with suspected or confirmed cases of ebola.
The hospital is used by people in Prestwich and run by the trust which also runs Fairfield Hospital in Bury.
