ASPIRING young engineers built and deconstructed a suspension bridge too large for their school hall and strong enough to walk over in just one day.
Year 5 and 6 pupils from Horwich Parish Church School constructed the 12 metre bridge with the help of the Institution of Civil Engineers in order to learn about bridges, teamwork and civil engineering.
Val Slawson, the teacher who organised the event, said the children thoroughly enjoyed the exercise, and are now keen to work towards engineering apprenticeships that will give them more career options in the future.
"They enjoyed it! They had a lovely time. They were working in teams as well, some of them were builders and others were site managers. It was good fun!" she exclaimed.
"They loved it and they learnt a lot. They were chattering about it for hours afterwards."
