A KIND-HEARTED youngster is raising money for children with cancer.

Maicey-Lou Hampson, aged nine, has lined up a number of money making ideas for Manchester's Christie Hospital and has already raised more than £600.

The Sacred Heart pupil has used her pocket money to buy raffle tickets, which she has been selling at her gymnastics club in Leigh, and has also been making and selling cakes.

Maicey-Lou, from Collingwood Way in Westhoughton, is also taking part in the junior Manchester Marathon on May 9 and is arranging a Midnight Walk with her family and friends on May 30 from St Bartholemew Church to Royal Bolton Hospital.

Mum Adele, aged 32, said: "She is a real gem. She is so sensitive and kind hearted. It all started after she was given some money by her grandma for doing some cleaning and then on the way home in the car she said she wanted to buy raffle tickets with her money.

"I asked her why and she said because she wanted to raise money for charity. After watching a documentary about children with cancer she was heartbroken and said she wanted to help the families.

"It's overwhelming that she had £5 in a little pot and now she has £600 and it's not stopping there.

"I'm very, very proud of her – she is so enthusiastic for her age and puts everyone before herself."

From now until May 30 Maicey-Lou will be raising money for The Christie and is hoping to reach her £1000 target.

Year four student Maicey-Lou said: "I wanted to raise money for Christie's for the Proton Beam Unit because it's very sad that all the poorly children have to travel all the way to America just for the treatment done when they could have it in Manchester. I'm looking forward to doing the marathon with my friend the most because I'm really good at running and used to do cross country at my old school.

"I wanted to do a sky dive too but they said I'm too young so I am going to do indoor skydiving at the Trafford centre.

"I feel really good that I am doing it and that hopefully with the money I raise children are going to get a lot better a lot quicker."
