A MUM has thanked her 'guardian angel' 999 call handler who saved her son's life.

Vicky Martin became hysterical as her two-year-old son Archie turned grey and foamed at the mouth as he choked on a 2p coin.

But North West Ambulance Service call handler Zoe Scott calmed her down then talked her through the life-saving Heimlich manoeuvre — which Miss Martin relayed to her mum.

The 35-year-old from Little Hulton said: “Without her calming influence I know for a fact my little boy would have died— that day Zoe turned up for work we found our guardian angel.

"I was in the other room and I heard my other half and my mum screaming for me."

Archie's dad 31-year-old William Davies and his grandma Alison Martin, aged 60, were both banging him on the back trying to dislodge the coin.

Miss Martin added: "I called 999 and I can't remember any of the start of the call, I just remember a voice on the other end of the phone.

"My stomach was in my throat — I thought Archie was going to die.

"It was Zoe on the phone and she did a brilliant job just to calm me down.

"She focused on what I needed to do rather than what I thought might happen.

"She talked me through the Heimlich manoeuvre and I talked my mum through it.

"The call lasted nine minutes and Archie had been choking for two minutes before that.

"She picked up when I was becoming hysterical again because it wasn't working.

"My mum continued trying and eventually the coin came flying out.

"Zoe has been so modest saying she was just doing her job — but it's not just a job, she saved me and Archie."

Miss Martin, who works as a receptionist for car dealers Perrys in Bolton, this week visited Mrs Scott to thank her for her quick thinking.

Mum-of-two Zoe, aged 44, from Chadderton, has worked as a call handler for the last seven and a half years.

She said: "I was just so glad to be able to help. As a mum it's your worst nightmare.

"Normally you don't really know the outcome of calls so it was lovely of Vicky to take the time to thank me."
