FOR people with dementia, familiar spaces can suddenly seem strange.

Even signs pointing people in the right direction can add to the confusion.

Cllr Linda Thomas, deputy leader of Bolton Council, knows Victoria Square and the steps to the town hall like the back of her hand.

But for someone with dementia, a well-known location can quickly become alien and confusing.

Cllr Thomas, who is chairman of the borough’s health and wellbeing board, has leant her support to our Donate £1 for Dementia campaign.

She said: “This is a really important campaign. It is vital that we create the right environment for dementia patients at Royal Bolton Hospital.

“As a council we have taken dementia awareness on board, and are encouraging as many people as possible to become dementia friends.

“This is a 21st century condition, and anything which can raise the profile of dementia so people have a better understanding of what we are dealing with is a great thing.”
