A CARE home in Breightmet was found to provide a safe service following an unannounced inspection by the Care Quality Commission.

Inspectors carried out a visit focused on "safe in relation to medicines and well-led in relation to governance".

The service received a good rating for the service being safe and requires improvement for the service being well-led.

Inspectors reported: "People we spoke with told us the staff were kind and caring. We saw respectful interactions between staff and people.

"We saw that people were treated with dignity and respect and their opinions and views were listened to."

The inspection took place in Spring House.

The report stated: "This focused inspection took place in Spring House following a previous focused inspection on 20 January, 2017 to follow up concerns in relation to the safe administration of medication and governance."

It added: "We found Spring House was safe, clean and clutter-free and appropriate health and safety measures were in place. Risk assessments had been completed.

"Staffing levels in Spring House on the day of the inspection were sufficient to meet the needs of the current occupants of the house.

"The home had an up-to-date medicines policy; the section on self-medication was awaiting 'sign off'.

"Medicines were given as prescribed and were safely stored."

Requires improvement was given to whether the service was well-led because inspectors stated: "as the manager has not been in place long enough to evidence whether improvements could be sustained".

The report stated: "Patients said they felt safe in Spring House. Patients confirmed they had received safe and good care.

One patient said, 'It's much better being here than in the hospital, the food is better, I have my own room and bathroom, you don't get that in hospital'.

One patient told us they had been supported by the physiotherapist and had regained confidence with their mobility and felt safe using their walking aid.

This patient was looking forward to being discharged from Spring House and would be supported at home by carers."
