THE regional mental health trust has announced a new chief executive.

Neil Thwaite has been the interim chief executive since Bev Humphrey stepped down from the position, now he is taking over the role permanently.

Mr Thwaite said: "I am delighted to be the new chief executive of GMMH.

"I feel it is a privilege to continue the organisation’s journey to a successful and sustainable future.

"Working with partners I will ensure that we keep service users and carers at the heart of everything we do.

"I am immensely proud of our workforce — I am determined to do all I can to help them to maintain high standards to deliver the best care possible to our communities."

Mr Thwaite has sat on NHS boards for the last 13 years and has been with the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust since 2006.

Rupert Nichols, chairman, said: "The board welcomes Neil’s appointment and I am confident he will give us clear guidance and direction, as well as strong leadership."
